Koura launches Klea® 456A as an alternative to R-134a for the UK/European automotive aftermarket
Boston, USA, January 2022 – Koura have unveiled Klea® 456A refrigerant as a new, lower global-warming-potential alternative to R-134a for automotive aftermarket applications.
This year’s EU F-Gas phase down has reduced quota levels to 45% of the baseline. The UK government has confirmed Britain will implement the same phase down schedule. To further support the automotive aftermarket for automobile A/C systems designed for R-134a refrigerant, Koura have developed an alternative refrigerant — Klea® 456A. Successful trials have shown it to be compatible with existing R-134a automotive air conditioning systems whilst maintaining high-quality, efficient performance. As such, the driver and their passengers will experience no change in A/C refrigerant performance.
Klea® 456A refrigerant is non-flammable, with Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 626, which is a reduction of 46% in GWP when compared R-134a.
Koura’s development of Klea® 456A refrigerant aligns with its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the environment. As Brad Hooper, Commercial Director EMEAI at Koura, explains “At Koura we are committed to innovation – our ongoing research and development program has been a key focus for over fifteen years, with product development part of the company’s ongoing evolution.”
Dave Smith, Vice President Product Management & Strategy at Koura, adds “We will be bringing more of our promising ideas and innovations into effect in 2022. Koura has shown that many of these innovations can make a real difference to businesses, to the environment, and to people’s lives, and so we are focused on rolling out these innovations into new applications and giving them real effect.”
Koura is working with TEXA S.p.A., a global leader in the design, development, and production of air conditioning recharge stations, to get EU (CE) and UK certification for Klea® 456A refrigerant. Stefano Menghel, Product Manager at TEXA S.p.A said “For over 25 years TEXA has focused on innovation and bringing cutting edge solutions to its customers. Klea® 456A refrigerant represents another advancement in the automotive aftermarket and we are delighted to be working with Koura to help bring this product to market.”
Koura is currently engaging with distributors to bring Klea® 456A to market within the UK and EU.
Koura’s Klea® refrigerant gases are trusted by the world’s biggest automotive manufacturers and leading distributors. The company’s products are used in air conditioning systems in millions of cars and other vehicles every year.
